Manager's Favourite Things

This is the poem I wrote for my manager's retirement do.

Get in my office, I just caught you talking,
If you don't like it, you can go walking
Across the road, go find a new job,
I want willing workers, not lazy slobs

Look at this big queue, just ring your bell,
Customer service, you must do it well!
My team is awesome, the best in the store,
Shining fridges and sparkling floor

Whose are these green trays, baskets and wheels?
Your tills are untidy, are you lot for real?
My nickname is fingers, yes I've got ten
Oooh look at that lovely, bright shiny pen!

Where are the Ops boys, I need them to fly,
Look at those baskets, they're dangerously high!
I do not think I am going too far,
My section looks just like the doggies doo das!

When [ ] bites,
Her words could sting,
We were feeling scared!
But you know what
At the end of the day
We all knew she cared

Transient Life

Sitting on a tree-lined street
Bein' ignored by those you meet,
Holding onto your see-through friend.
No one knows why you're here;
The days and nights that you fear,
Hoping they will come to an end

Grasping onto empty dreams.
No one's life is what it seems.
Rainbows fade and summers never stay.
Tears fall and hearts are shattered.
Families fail like they never mattered.
Children grow, leave school and move away.

Standing on the edge of life.
No one's girl and no one's wife.
Holding onto memories of the past.
Happy minutes, happy hours,
Fade and die like yellow flowers.
In your heart you knew they wouldn't last!

Grasping onto empty dreams.
No one's life is what it seems.
Rainbows fade and summers never stay.
Tears fall and hearts are shattered.
Families fail like they never mattered.
Children grow, leave school and move away.

Chasing rainbows for their end -
Golden riches, as your friend.
Hitting every target, every goal!
Life is lived on making deals,
Massive houses, alloy wheels,
These are empty when you have no soul!

Grasping onto empty dreams.
No one's life is what it seems.
Rainbows fade and summers never stay.
Tears fall and hearts are shattered.
Families fail like they never mattered.
Children grow, leave school and move away.

Riches never satisfied
Money lost, makes grown men cry
Cars will rust, and thieves break in and steal.
Love your neighbour as yourself,
Give to those who need your help.
These are things which make our love real

Living life is more than money,
Satisfaction, it ain't funny,
When you find it in a whiskey glass.
You will grow old and memories will pass!

Come and stand here by the cross
There's much to gain, none a loss!
The Man we see, fixes broken hearts.
The only bottle's filled with tears,
He will take away your fears.
His eternal love, will not depart!

Come, He takes you by the hand,
Leads you to a promised land,
Where fountains flow and love never dies.
No more tears, no broken dreams,
Living water, eternal streams.
Salvation, which money can't buy!
