Quintessentially British

How do you know if it's gonna snow?
Visit the BBC weather page!
They may be right or they may be wrong
Please don't get into a fiery rage.
Promised sun, but we get rain!
Wind? Oh no a hurricane!
Hail, fog and mist, snow, icy roads too.
Winter, spring, seems like May
4 seasons in one day!
We love the British weather

What do we do when someone jumps the queue
In the Tesco Extra basket lane?
Do we keep quiet or do we start a riot
In the Tesco Extra basket lane?
On a bus or on a train,
Ferry, coach or aeroplane!
Supermarkets too, cos that's what we do
We stand in a line, feeling smug and fine
Cos it's in our British chromosomes

What do we eat when we want a treat?
An ice cream in a 'cardboard' cone.
We like high tea because it's so fancy
Cream and jam on a fruit scone.
Fish and chips by raging sea
Vindaloo or kedgeree
Horseradish sauce, with beef of course
Wimbledon, such a dream
Strawberries and cream
Delightful British cooking

What do we watch on the old TV box
On a Saturday afternoon?
We like our sports, all kinds and sorts
On a Saturday afternoon.
Rugby, football, golf and darts,
Wrestling and martial arts
We like our pool and play by the rules,
But if someone takes our wicket,
It just ain't cricket (Yes it is!)
Our Great British sporting times

Scots and Irish, they are Gaels,
Welsh, of course they're from Wales.
English from England, Manx - Isle of Man
Many cities, many towns
The Queen wears the crown
We're quintessentially British

Makin' Tracks (original version)

This has been altered

Making Tracks

Looking in the mirror, wanna look like mummy
Lipstick on my face, looking very funny
Smiling as the world goes by
Wanna be a super star singer
Wanna be everyone’s winner

High hopes, making tracks
Wanna be famous
Don’ wanna go back
To being nothing
Nothing at all
I want loads of fans
And be standing tall
Everyone looking at ME

Looking in the mirror, fixing my hair
Going on the stage, all my friends are there
Smiling, looking cute
Wanna be a superstar,
Wanna be a pop star

In a studio making tracks
Gonna be famous
Don’ wanna go back
To bein’ nothing
Nothin at all
I want loads of fans
And be standing tall
Everyone staring at ME

Looking in the paper, I see my face
Night on the town, I look a disgrace
No longer smiling
Wish I was no superstar
Wish I was no pop star

Somebody stop me in my tracks
Do I wanna be famous?
Please let me go back
To bein nothin
Nothin at all
Where nobody knew me
Where I could be small

Looking in the mirror, high as a kite
Snorting coke, injecting China White
I feel like I am Dynamite
Never thought I’d go this far
Is this really the life of a star?

In a dark place, feelin small and lonely
Making tracks with a heroin needle
Wanna go back
Wanna be what I was
Wanna be that girl
Playing at being mummy
Life just ain’t funny
Anymore!

Makin' Tracks (early version)

Lookin' in the mirror, wanna look like mummy
Lipstick on my face, lookin' very funny
When I grow up I wanna make lots of money
Wanna be a super star
Wanna be a pop star

High hopes, making tracks!
Wanna be famous
Don' wanna go back
To bein nothin
Nothin at all
I want loads of fans
And be standing tall
Everything revolving 'round ME

Lookin in the mirror fixin my hair;
Goin on the stage; all my friends are there
Living my life as if without a care
Gonna be a super star
Gonna be a pop star

In a studio makin tracks
Gonna be famous
Not gonna go back
To bein nothin
nothin at all
I want loads of fans
And be standing tall
Everythin revolvin round ME

Lookin in the camera, paps in my face
Night on the town, I act a disgrace
Smoking dragon, I like to chase
Wish I was no super star
Wish I was no pop star

Somebody stop me in my tracks
Do I wanna be famous
Please let me go back
To bein nothin
Nothin at all
Where nobody knew me
Where I could be small

Lookin in the mirror, high as a kite
Snorting coke, injecting China White
I begin to feel like Dynamite
Never thought I'd go this far
Do I wanna be a star?

Makin tracks with a heroin needle
Doing drugs - an unnecessary evil
It ain't good cos it's illegal
I really wanna go back
I really wanna back track
I wanna play at mummy
Cos life just ain't funny
I ain't got no money
My friends ain't there
They really didn't care
Life ain't fair
Skin on my face
Looks a disgrace
My life is in a dark, lonely place

One Blood

We are One Blood
We may have different skin colours
We may have different beliefs
We may have different cultures
But at the end of the day
We are One Blood.

We are One Blood
We are born
We breathe the same air
We bleed the same colour
We die
We are One Blood

We are One Blood
We laugh
We cry
We weep
We mourn
We are One Blood

Manager's Favourite Things

This is the poem I wrote for my manager's retirement do.

Get in my office, I just caught you talking,
If you don't like it, you can go walking
Across the road, go find a new job,
I want willing workers, not lazy slobs

Look at this big queue, just ring your bell,
Customer service, you must do it well!
My team is awesome, the best in the store,
Shining fridges and sparkling floor

Whose are these green trays, baskets and wheels?
Your tills are untidy, are you lot for real?
My nickname is fingers, yes I've got ten
Oooh look at that lovely, bright shiny pen!

Where are the Ops boys, I need them to fly,
Look at those baskets, they're dangerously high!
I do not think I am going too far,
My section looks just like the doggies doo das!

When [ ] bites,
Her words could sting,
We were feeling scared!
But you know what
At the end of the day
We all knew she cared

Transient Life

Sitting on a tree-lined street
Bein' ignored by those you meet,
Holding onto your see-through friend.
No one knows why you're here;
The days and nights that you fear,
Hoping they will come to an end

Grasping onto empty dreams.
No one's life is what it seems.
Rainbows fade and summers never stay.
Tears fall and hearts are shattered.
Families fail like they never mattered.
Children grow, leave school and move away.

Standing on the edge of life.
No one's girl and no one's wife.
Holding onto memories of the past.
Happy minutes, happy hours,
Fade and die like yellow flowers.
In your heart you knew they wouldn't last!

Grasping onto empty dreams.
No one's life is what it seems.
Rainbows fade and summers never stay.
Tears fall and hearts are shattered.
Families fail like they never mattered.
Children grow, leave school and move away.

Chasing rainbows for their end -
Golden riches, as your friend.
Hitting every target, every goal!
Life is lived on making deals,
Massive houses, alloy wheels,
These are empty when you have no soul!

Grasping onto empty dreams.
No one's life is what it seems.
Rainbows fade and summers never stay.
Tears fall and hearts are shattered.
Families fail like they never mattered.
Children grow, leave school and move away.

Riches never satisfied
Money lost, makes grown men cry
Cars will rust, and thieves break in and steal.
Love your neighbour as yourself,
Give to those who need your help.
These are things which make our love real

Living life is more than money,
Satisfaction, it ain't funny,
When you find it in a whiskey glass.
You will grow old and memories will pass!

Come and stand here by the cross
There's much to gain, none a loss!
The Man we see, fixes broken hearts.
The only bottle's filled with tears,
He will take away your fears.
His eternal love, will not depart!

Come, He takes you by the hand,
Leads you to a promised land,
Where fountains flow and love never dies.
No more tears, no broken dreams,
Living water, eternal streams.
Salvation, which money can't buy!
